There are three sub-races for this new player character race. The only other race to have that many sub-races in the players handbook is the elf. There is the protector, scorge, and fallen aasimar for sub-races to choose from. The aasimar is ideal for any charisma based character class out of the phb. Bards, Paladins, Sorcerers, and Warlocks are all very strong character class choices for an aasimar character. Aasimars also start out with a powerful angel NPC contact to start with.
